The Detroit Lions are making an otherwise quiet offseason more eventful with a major reveal.
The offseason is typically a slower period for major NFL news, but the Detroit Lions are shaking things up by delivering a big announcement to their fans.
Following a fantastic 2024 season, the Lions finished with a 15-2 record—the best in franchise history—securing the NFC’s No. 1 playoff seed. Unfortunately, they fell to the Washington Commanders in the Divisional Round, but there’s no point in dwelling on past disappointments.
Plenty will be different for the Lions in 2025. They have a fresh group of coordinators and have revamped much of their coaching staff. However, one thing will remain the same: the name of their cherished indoor stadium.
On Friday, March 28, the Detroit Lions and Ford Motor Company announced an extension of their stadium naming rights agreement through at least the 2036 season, according to the official team statement.
The Lions have called Ford Field home since 2002, making it the NFL’s second-longest naming rights partnership. Since its opening, the stadium has welcomed more than 30 million guests.
“Renewing our partnership with Ford Motor Company has always been a top priority,” said Detroit Lions President and CEO Rod Wood. “Ford was a crucial partner in our return to downtown Detroit in 2002 and remains vital to our brand’s growth.”
He continued, “We take great pride in having a legendary Detroit-based company’s name on our stadium for the foreseeable future.”
“Ford and the Lions are the perfect match—two iconic institutions deeply connected to Detroit,” said Jim Farley, Ford’s president and CEO. “Since Bill Ford led the effort to bring Ford Field downtown, this stadium has played a key role in Detroit’s resurgence, hosting some of the biggest events in sports and entertainment.”
He added, “Just like our city, both Ford and the Lions are built on hard work and determination. We’re thrilled that the Lions and their fans will continue calling Ford Field home.”
Ford Field isn’t just about sports. Any Detroit native has likely attended at least one concert there. Since its 2002 debut, the stadium has hosted major tours by artists like Taylor Swift, Kenny Chesney, The Rolling Stones, Eminem, Kid Rock, and Garth Brooks.
Lions fans can rest assured that they’ll be cheering on their team at Ford Field for at least another decade.
