BYU Secures Commitment from Top Tight End, Overpowers Power Four Programs
BYU bolstered its 2026 football recruiting class on Saturday with a key addition. Ty Goettsche, a three-star tight end from Colorado, announced his commitment via X (formerly Twitter).
Standing at 6-foot-7 and weighing 230 pounds, Goettsche is a standout two-sport athlete at Cherry Creek HS in Englewood, Colo. He is currently ranked as a 3-star recruit by 247 Sports and is the No. 9 player in Colorado’s 2026 class. He plays for one of the top teams in 5A under the guidance of Dave Logan, a former NFL receiver and the Denver Broncos’ play-by-play announcer.
Though Goettsche is still developing, he has the potential to become a primary target in any offensive system. His basketball experience gives him a strong ability to excel in contested situations, similar to legends like Tony Gonzalez. One area he will focus on improving before arriving in Provo is his speed. Despite some flashes of quickness, refining his agility will be key. He will also be a valuable asset for the Cougars’ run-blocking game.
Last year, Goettsche helped his team win a state championship, recording 13 receptions for 165 yards and four touchdowns. He chose BYU over several Power Four programs, including Utah and Penn State.
This is a significant recruiting win for head coach Kalani Sitake and his staff. Goettsche plans to serve a mission after high school and will join the Cougars no later than 2028.
Goettsche becomes the fourth player to commit to BYU’s future class, following Justice Brathwaite, Kaneal Sweetwyne, and PJ Takitaki.
