BYU promotes alum Lee Cummard to head coach of women’s basketball
BYU announced on Monday that associate head coach Lee Cummard has been promoted to head coach of the women’s basketball team.
Cummard had been serving as interim coach since March 8, following the announcement that Amber Whiting would not be returning for a fourth season.
Cummard played for BYU from 2005 to 2009, earning three All-Mountain West Conference selections. Afterward, he returned to the men’s basketball program in 2016 as a graduate assistant, later moving to assistant coach. In 2019, he transitioned to the women’s team staff.
Whiting, who coached the Cougars for three seasons, finished with a 45-51 overall record, including a 19-35 mark in conference play.
