Everything happens for a reason. Adversity makes you stronger. There are no failures, only lessons.
Some call these phrases clichés, while others see truth in them. On the Glue Guys Podcast, Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff admitted he’s still looking for the lessons behind the team’s consecutive postseason heartbreaks.
Podcast co-host and former NFL quarterback Alex Smith—no stranger to the highs and lows of pro football—asked Goff if he’s had time to reflect on the Lions’ abrupt playoff exit this past season and their NFC Championship defeat the year before.
B“There’s still a grieving process,” Goff admitted. “It’s tough, man, and I wish it was easier to accept. You keep waiting to find the lesson in it. Maybe that takes time, but eventually, it’ll reveal itself.”
As much as fans are disappointed, players likely replay the painful moments in their minds daily since that crushing January loss.
“I didn’t play well enough to give us a real shot, and if I had performed better, would we have won? Maybe. Probably. And that’s what keeps you up at night,” Goff reflected.
Still, ever the leader, the quarterback believes the setback will fuel the team moving forward. Hopefully, these painful memories are replaced by the Lions lifting the Lombardi Trophy in 2026.
The conversation also covers Goff’s transition to Detroit, his bond with Dan Campbell, the iconic Goff chant, and more. Watch the full episode below.
