Kelly Stafford put on a brave face while celebrating her and Matthew Stafford’s twin daughters’ birthdays with a Paris-themed party, despite wanting to cancel it just days before.
“We have eight-year-olds,” Kelly, 35, shared on Instagram Monday, March 31, marking daughters Sawyer and Chandler’s special day. “I love watching each of them grow individually while staying close to their bond. It’s truly so special.”
Her post revealed that, despite briefly canceling the party as punishment for their recent behavior, Kelly and Matthew, 37, went ahead with the celebration over the weekend.
The party featured a paint theme where guests painted Eiffel Tower pictures and wore berets. The Parisian theme continued with the birthday girls’ matching Eiffel Tower shirts and cake toppers.
Kelly and Matthew’s younger daughters, Hunter, 6, and Tyler, 4, also joined the celebration, wearing berets for a sweet family photo.
Matthew, the Los Angeles Rams quarterback, joined in the fun, posing with one of the twins while she wore an apron and held a paintbrush.
Kelly previously revealed that the party was at risk days before due to the girls’ misbehavior at home.
“I have two children—I’m not naming names—but they’ve decided they run the world and know what’s best, with all the attitude now,” Kelly said on the March 27 episode of her Morning After podcast. “I’m tired.”
BThough Kelly didn’t directly name her older daughters, she hinted at it. “This has been ongoing for a couple of months, and I’m struggling with their attitudes. I’m the enforcer. I’m probably the mean parent.”
She recalled, “Matthew’s turned too. We tried ‘good cop, bad cop,’ but clearly, it’s not working, and nothing has changed.”
As a result, Kelly said, “We told them the party’s off because we can’t celebrate you right now due to your behavior. We love you, but no celebration.”
She admitted it was “a hard decision to make” because it “hurts as much as it hurts them.”
Despite nearly canceling, Kelly said she and Matthew found out they couldn’t “get our deposit back” for the venue, so they were forced to reverse their decision.
“I had to tell them the party was back on,” she laughed. “It’s not because of their behavior change, it’s because we couldn’t get our money back.”
Earlier this year, Kelly discussed how her parenting has changed as her daughters have gotten older, especially concerning social media.
“I always told myself the minute they know what Instagram is, I’d have to figure it out. And now my older ones know what it is,” Kelly exclusively told Us Weekly in February.
She noted that the twins’ friends have started following her on Instagram, something she hadn’t expected.
“Our generation grew up in the weird time when social media began,” Kelly said. “But the generation before us didn’t have it, and now kids do, but they don’t understand the risks. We know the dangers.”
The podcast host, married to Matthew since April 2015, admitted that while social media is a “tool” for her career, she “fears” for her kids growing up with it.
” That’s a whole different ball game,” Kelly said. “I pray something happens to social media before they get to that point, even though I know it probably won’t.”
