Former Alabama stars Jahmyr Gibbs, Jameson Williams, Terrion Arnold to sport new jersey numbers for Lions

Former Alabama running back Jahmyr Gibbs has already emerged as a standout in the NFL, forming one of the league’s top backfield duos with David Montgomery for the Detroit Lions.

After being taken with the 12th overall pick in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, Gibbs has worn jersey No. 26. But that is expected to change heading into the 2025 campaign.

According to a statement from the Lions, Gibbs will be changing his jersey number from 26 to 0 ahead of his third season in the league.

Also noted in the Lions’ release, wide receiver Jameson Williams, another first-rounder (No. 12 overall like Gibbs) from the 2022 NFL Draft, will be changing his number from 9 to 1. Meanwhile, 2024 first-round pick Terrion Arnold (No. 24 overall) will hand off No. 0 to Gibbs and switch to jersey No. 6.

It’s clear the Lions love selecting Alabama players early in the draft. Could they go after Alabama linebacker Jihaad Campbell when the NFL Draft kicks off Thursday, April 24, in Green Bay? Given Detroit’s recent history, it wouldn’t be a shock.
