:The Detroit Lions are once again aiming to arrange joint practices ahead of the 2025 NFL preseason.
Last year, the Lions traveled to East Rutherford to engage in two joint practice sessions with the New York Giants. Following the competitive sessions, Detroit lost the preseason matchup, 14-3, at MetLife Stadium.
Head coach Dan Campbell has often announced the team’s joint practice plans during the annual league meetings.
However, this time around, Detroit’s head coach chose to remain silent. Campbell shared that he received some criticism for revealing plans before informing the local media.
“I’m not saying anything yet, because it feels like every year I’ve done that, it’s become a big deal. Like, ‘Hey, wish you told us first before it went out since we haven’t told our media,’” Campbell explained. “So, yeah, we’re working on something. We’ll see how it turns out.”
Campbell later shared that the team is attempting to set up joint practices with two different teams in the preseason.
Recalling the Giants’ visit to Allen Park in 2023, Campbell stated, “It’s exactly what you expect — intensity rises and competition sharpens. It’s a new challenge, and I love that, because in camp, things get repetitive and stale. You don’t grow, just spin in place. This gives us a spark.”
The NFL is set to release the Lions’ preseason schedule in May, after the draft, likely giving more insight into potential joint practice opponents.
