Detroit Lions All-Pro wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown delivered a message to the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles during a YouTube “Cold as Balls” episode with comedian and Eagles superfan Kevin Hart on April 8.
“We want to win the Super Bowl, of course,” St. Brown answered when asked by Hart about his forecast for the upcoming season.
“But (you) can’t, because of the Eagles,” Hart shot back.
“Hopefully we get you guys Week 1,” St. Brown replied, referencing the Eagles’ September 4 home opener.
As far as smack talk or bulletin board material goes, this isn’t major, but St. Brown has a track record of talking trash that sometimes backfires on him.
He also owns a resume as one of the league’s premier receivers. In his first four seasons, St. Brown has earned three Pro Bowl nods, two All-Pro selections, and a four-year, $120 million contract extension signed in April 2024.
St. Brown has matched his bold attitude with elite play and tireless dedication. He has 430 catches for 4,851 yards and 33 touchdowns over four seasons — Hall of Fame-caliber production.
But he’s also coming off his toughest professional setback. The Lions secured the NFC’s No. 1 seed and a first-round bye in 2024, only to fall at home to Washington in the Divisional Round.
St. Brown previously called out Washington receiver Dyami Brown after a 2022 game, criticizing that Brown was drafted 30 picks ahead of him. Brown responded with 6 catches for 98 yards in a 45-31 playoff win.
“You know how the draft is. It is what it is,” St. Brown said in 2022. “Even the Commanders took a guy before me. I think his name’s Dyami Brown. Not sure how many catches or yards he has—you can look it up—but I don’t forget. I saw him across the field and I give every team hell … Didn’t see (Brown) much that game.”
If the Lions and Eagles meet in Week 1, it’ll be against a retooled Philly secondary. Gone are veterans C.J. Gardner-Johnson (trade), Darius Slay (free agency), and James Bradberry (released).
St. Brown has played Philly twice — both defeats and both games where he didn’t exactly dominate.
The last meeting was a 38-35 Eagles win to open the 2022 season, with St. Brown posting 8 receptions for 64 yards and a score. Before that, he had 3 catches for 46 yards in a 41-6 loss in 2021.
