Excitement builds for AJ Dybantsa as BYU eyes star-studded backcourt

AJ Dybantsa eager for what’s ahead alongside five-star guard at BYU

BYU Basketball is generating plenty of excitement lately. With five-star recruit AJ Dybantsa laying out his future in Provo, another standout player may soon make things official and team up with him on the court.

Former Baylor standout Robert Wright III made an official visit to BYU on Friday. The five-star point guard, who entered the transfer portal on Monday, has been closely linked to the Cougars. Could Wright be the one to fill the shoes of Egor Demin? “Not yet, but very likely,” a source told Athlon.

The 6-foot-1 guard reportedly gave BYU a verbal commitment on Thursday but has not yet signed. Wright’s potential move has Dybantsa looking ahead with excitement. He reposted a photo of the two with the caption, “AJ Dybantsa and Robert Wright is going to be an electric duo.”

Dybantsa, the No. 1 prospect in the 2025 class, is seen as a top NBA pick in 2026. The Utah Prep star impressed at the McDonald’s All-American Game and took part in the dunk contest, leaping over WNBA standout Angel Reese for a perfect score of 50.

Reese, standing at 6-foot-3, appeared surprised by Dybantsa’s effortless leaping ability. Adding a fun twist to the event were mascots Ronald McDonald and Grimace, who served as dunk contest judges.

Like Demin, both Dybantsa and Wright are likely heading to the NBA after next year. Wright, a Big 12 All-Freshman, averaged 11.5 points and 4.2 assists per game for Baylor last season.
