From Purdue to MSU: Former Purdue player Rashunda Jones Officially Signs With Michigan State

Michigan State Women’s basketball took to Instagram just a few hours ago to announce that sophomore Rashunda has signed with the Spartans

Rashunda Jones, who spent two seasons with the Purdue Boilermakers, announced her commitment to MSU women’s basketball five days ago and the program made it official today. Jones, also known as “Spider”, averaged 9.8 points, three rebounds, and three assists per game. She ranked second on Purdue’s roster in scoring and led in assists, making her a valuable addition to MSU. The Spartans will have to replace graduates Nyla Hampton and Jadden Simmons, both of whom had an outstanding 2024-25 season.

During Jones’ 2023-24 season, she played in 30 games, averaging 18.7 minutes per game, 2.3 rebounds, 7.8 points, 1.7 assists, and 1.0 steals. Jones was the first freshman to earn Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors after scoring 20 points against Texas A&M. She was one of the Big Ten’s top scorers and ranked third in scoring among her rookie class at Purdue her freshman year.

During the 2024-25 season, the Spartans struggled with consistency in shooting and scoring three-pointers. However, the team dominated defensively, especially having more possession of the ball.

After a challenging season, the Michigan State women’s basketball team is taking a deep dive into next year’s season following their loss against North Carolina State in the NCAA tournament. MSU has found Rashunda Jones, who could be a perfect fit for the roster next season.

Last year, the Spartans finished at 22-10 with an 11-7 record in the Big Ten. The team averaged 78.1 points per game and scored a total of 2,498 points.

The future is bright for Jones and

the Spartans.
