Kentucky emerges as contender for ex-Duke commit Shelton Henderson, decision coming soon.

The Wildcats are reportedly among the top contenders for the 5-star recruit.

Jason Marcum has been covering the Cincinnati Bengals for Cincy Jungle since 2014 and the University of Kentucky for A Sea Of Blue since 2015.

The Kentucky Wildcats are working furiously to add at least one more player to the 2025-26 roster. It’s likely to be a transfer portal addition, but there’s a chance it will come from the high school ranks.

On Friday, 5-star forward Shelton Henderson decommitted from the Duke Blue Devils. The initial belief was Henderson would follow former Duke assistant Jai Lucas to Miami, where Lucas is now the head coach.

However, it appears Kentucky is trying to get in the mix.

According to Marcus Gutierrez, Henderson is considering Kentucky, Texas, Texas A&M, North Carolina, and Miami. A decision should be made by Monday but may come as soon as today.

The 6-foot-6, 220-pound Henderson hails from Texas, an area UK assistant Alvin Brooks III has extensive ties to. The talented wing is ranked 14th overall in the 2025 class by 247 Sports, which also has him listed as the second-best small forward.

This may be nothing more than a hat-on-the-table scenario for the Wildcats, but they’re apparently trying to make a move with Henderson as a decision nears.
