Could Michigan State Still Be in the Running for a McDonald’s All-American?…

It can be an adventure to keep up with all the movement in college basketball. Coaches move from job to job, and whatnot. As do players these days. Whether it be via the transfer portal, or in some cases, incoming freshmen deciding late before enrolling that they want to look elsewhere.

That is exactly the case for 2025 McDonald’s All-American guard Darius Adams.

Michigan State head basketball coach Tom Izzo had Adams very high on his target list when he was initially recruiting the 2025 class. The La Lumiere School product, which has proven to be a hotbed for MSU in recent memory, was a must-get type of player for the Spartans before he initially chose Danny Hurley’s UConn Huskies.

Things completely changed this past weekend, as Adams withdrew his pledge from the University of Connecticut.

The news was made official by On3 Sports’ Joe Tipton, who didn’t fail to mention that Michigan State and Tennessee were Adams’ other two finalists when he initially chose UConn.

Does that mean the Spartans are back in the race? Nothing is official from out of East Lansing, but Adams would certainly fill a position of need, as he could fit nicely with the guys that are coming to Michigan State via High School and the transfer portal this offseason.

The La Lumiere connection stands out at this rate. That is the school where Jaren Jackson Jr played his prep ball. Not to mention, new transfer addition Kaleb Glenn was also a star there.

It’s no secret the Spartans need shooting, and the potential to get a guy that you wanted originally, it seems hard not to at least have some hope that Coach Izzo and his staff are trying to at least get a second look from Adams.
