Latest development in the ongoing Micah Hudson-Texas Tech drama

Latest twist in the ongoing Micah Hudson and Texas Tech story

A new development has emerged in the recruitment of Micah Hudson, as one recruiting outlet now forecasts he’ll return to Texas Tech.

Texas Tech wideout Micah Hudson goes through a drill during football practice on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024, at the Sports Performance Center.

One of the most unpredictable Texas Tech football sagas has taken another turn. On Monday, On3 Sports announced a projection that Micah Hudson, the former 5-star wide receiver commit, is expected to make his way back to Texas Tech.

This report, shared on X, adds to the already chaotic story surrounding Hudson’s college football journey. Hopefully, this signals that a conclusion could be coming soon.

On3’s Pete Nakos and Steve Wiltfong have both publicly predicted that Hudson is likely to reunite with Tech. Their projections are the clearest signs yet that all the speculation around Tech’s program may soon be validated.

Rumors first surfaced early in the spring semester that Hudson had exited the Texas A&M program, which he had transferred to after starting his career in Lubbock. Some rumors even alleged a physical altercation with A&M quarterback Marcel Reed—though that remains unconfirmed internet chatter.

Soon after, buzz began growing that Hudson was contemplating a return to the Red Raiders. Some fans even said they spotted him on campus back in March.

However, Hudson hadn’t officially entered the portal at that point. Around Spring Break, A&M head coach Mike Elko finally confirmed that Hudson was no longer part of the team

Since then, rumors have swirled that Hudson might rejoin head coach Joey McGuire’s squad. Wiltfong even reported Hudson had planned a visit to Utah this past weekend. Whether he actually visited has been unclear, with some Tech supporters insisting the trip didn’t happen.

Now there’s more reason to believe that visit didn’t occur. That’s due to the On3 projection that Hudson will re-enroll at Texas Tech.

Naturally, any recruiting update should be met with cautious optimism. That’s especially true in this case, where the highest-rated high school signee in Tech history lasted less than a year before transferring to a rival, then exiting again in under three months.

Still, with two respected On3 insiders suggesting a reunion is imminent, the situation is worth watching. On3 tends to be accurate when it makes bold predictions like this. Perhaps a satisfying conclusion to one of Tech’s most bizarre player journeys is finally near—which says a lot, given the school’s colorful history.
