Shocking news Lions May Consider Trading Jameson Williams Ahead of Contract Deadline

Thanks to general manager Brad Holmes, the Detroit Lions have built one of the strongest rosters in the NFL in recent years, with wideout Jameson Williams emerging as a standout draft selection.

Chosen 12th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, Williams enjoyed a breakout campaign last season, totaling 58 catches for 1,001 yards and seven touchdowns. Paired with Amon-Ra St. Brown, the Lions appear to have a dynamic receiver duo in place.

Still, in his yearly NFL draft needs article, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer noted Detroit might seek to upgrade at receiver—and with Williams’ fifth-year option decision upcoming, “some in NFL circles” believe a trade is possible.

Back in March, Holmes told reporters during the annual league meetings that the Lions will “most likely” pick up Williams’ option, though they could still decide to deal him despite that stance.

“He meant a lot to our offense last season,” Holmes said. “I believe it makes the most sense to try and keep him with us moving forward.”

Only 24 years old, Williams has already faced two suspensions in his career—one in 2023 for breaking the league’s gambling rules, and another in 2024 for violating the performance-enhancing substances policy.
