Kerby Joseph Shares Update on Contract Talks, Expresses Loyalty to Lions

It’s well known that the Detroit Lions are determined to keep their core playmakers in Honolulu Blue for years to come — and Kerby Joseph is high on that priority list.

Joseph was in town to throw the ceremonial first pitch at Comerica Park ahead of the Tigers vs. Padres game. But it wasn’t just his pitching that had people talking — it was his comments on his contract situation.

While chatting with Fox 2’s Jennifer Hammond before stepping on the mound, the All-Pro safety gave a small glimpse into the state of his deal.

“It’s moving along, we’ve started the process,” Joseph said.
“I love being in Detroit, and Detroit loves having me.”

His remarks were brief but reflected the same tone coming from within the organization.

Just the day prior, team president Rod Wood confirmed that Joseph — along with Aidan Hutchinson — is a crucial part of the team’s future.

“We’ve got Kerby Joseph, who’s also eligible for an extension,” Wood said Monday at a Detroit Economic Club meeting.
“The tough part now is we’ve built this strong core of players… and they’re all reaching their second deals.”

GM Brad Holmes echoed those remarks earlier in the offseason, making it clear Detroit wants to reward players they’ve developed. With contracts already in place for Penei Sewell, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Alim McNeill, Joseph and Hutchinson seem to be next.

Joseph was one of the league’s top defensive backs in 2024. He led the NFL in interceptions and earned first-team All-Pro status, playing a major role in Detroit’s historic 15-2 season.

Beyond his performance, Joseph has become a leader in the secondary — bringing confidence, intensity, and a deep love for the city that’s clearly mutual.
