Unexpected Player Could Take Over for Former Lions QB Matthew Stafford

Former Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford, now with the Los Angeles Rams, might soon see his successor emerge. As the 2025 NFL Draft approaches, speculation is growing that the Rams are considering Alabama’s Jalen Milroe as a potential future quarterback.

ESPN analyst Peter Schrager mentioned on “The Pat McAfee Show” that Milroe could be selected late in the first round, suggesting a team with an established starter might draft him to develop over time. The Rams, holding the 26th pick, fit this scenario and have reportedly shown interest in Milroe.

Milroe, known for his athleticism and strong arm, has areas needing refinement, such as pocket accuracy and decision-making. Despite these concerns, his potential has caught the attention of teams like the Rams, who have met with him multiple times during the pre-draft process.

Former NFL general manager Mike Mayock believes Milroe would be an excellent fit for the Rams, allowing him to learn under Stafford’s guidance. Mayock sees Milroe as a developmental prospect with significant upside.

While Rams head coach Sean McVay has indicated that drafting a quarterback isn’t a top priority, the team’s actions suggest they are open to selecting a quarterback like Milroe to prepare for the future.

As the draft nears, it’s possible the Rams will choose Milroe as Stafford’s eventual successor, continuing their strategy of developing talent for long-term success.
