Breaking news Brad Holmes addresses and dismisses Jameson Williams trade rumors

For the past few weeks, rumors have circulated about the Detroit Lions possibly trading wide receiver Jameson Williams. Following the first day of the 2025 NFL Draft, Lions general manager Brad Holmes firmly dismissed that narrative.

“No, that’s something we’ve never even considered. I have no idea where that report came from, but that’s not a discussion Dan (Campbell) and I have ever had,” Holmes said.

The speculation began when Holmes, during the owners meeting, said the team wasn’t ready to commit long-term to Williams, pointing out the difficulty of paying that position.

“As far as an extension goes, sure, we’ve got a lot of players we hope to extend. But it’s one of those spots where the financials are unclear. Paying a wide receiver isn’t cheap—it’s really pricey. But again, these are good problems,” Holmes said.

However, earlier in the same press conference, he had this to say:

“He was a big-time contributor for us last season. And he’s still got room to grow. I believe he has even more to show. So to me, it just makes sense to do what we can to keep him here,” Holmes said.

“With a fifth-year option looming and some around the league thinking he could be dealt,” Breer wrote.

But the Lions seem uninterested in exploring that possibility.

The team is expected to pick up Williams’ fifth-year option, which would keep him under contract for two more seasons. He’s coming off his best year yet—58 catches, 1,001 yards, and seven touchdowns.
