Bob, might Drew Allar turn in a fourth-year showing on par with the one Kerry Collins had back in the day at Penn State?

Penn State’s 2025 spring practices are now in the rearview mirror.

James Franklin’s Nittany Lions wrapped things up last Saturday with the Blue-White game at Beaver Stadium.

There are still questions to answer.

Even after landing three high-profile transfer receivers, it’s valid to wonder how much the passing game can grow, especially since All-American tight end Tyler Warren is now with the Indianapolis Colts.

Penn State fans are asking about fourth-year quarterback Drew Allar, who’s entering his third season as the starter.

A possible first-round pick in next year’s NFL draft, Allar has rare physical talent. Can he show it consistently when Penn State meets elite defenses (Oregon, Iowa, Ohio State) this fall?

This comment about Allar caught my attention.

Collins thrived behind an elite offensive line in his last year of college. He threw for 2,679 yards and 21 touchdowns, but also had seven interceptions.

He benefited from playing alongside Ki-Jana Carter and two future NFL fullbacks (Brian Milne, Jon Witman), plus All-American tight end Kyle Brady and 1,000-yard receiver Bobby Engram.

Carter was the No. 1 pick (Cincinnati) in the 1995 NFL draft, Collins went fifth (Carolina), and Brady was chosen eighth (New York Jets).

Collins’ top season came in his fourth and final year at Penn State.

Allar is now in Year 4 too. In 2024, he passed for 3,327 yards and 24 touchdowns and added six rushing scores.

In his first two seasons starting, Allar has thrown 49 touchdowns to just 10 interceptions.

But he’s 0-2 versus Ohio State.

The Lions’ 2025 rushing attack should be dominant, with 1,000-yard backs Kaytron Allen and Nick Singleton running behind four returning starters on the offensive line.

To thrive, Allar will need production from his new wideouts and tight ends Khalil Dinkins and Luke Reynolds.
