Lions Had Rivals in Pursuit of Draft Trade That Brought in Isaac TeSlaa

Before this year’s NFL Draft, Dan Campbell made it clear he wanted the Detroit Lions to get younger at wide receiver.

The front office responded by moving up in the third round to draft a rookie receiver.

However, making Campbell’s wish come true came at a steep cost.

Detroit dealt pick 102 in this year’s draft and two 2026 third-rounders to the Jacksonville Jaguars to acquire picks 70 and 182 this year, plus a sixth-rounder next year.

Another team tried to acquire the 70th pick in the NFL Draft, which the Lions ultimately used to draft wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa.

Detroit selected TeSlaa with the 70th pick after outbidding the Los Angeles Rams for Jacksonville’s selection.

The Athletic’s Michael Silver reported that the Rams offered a 2025 second-round pick for No. 70 overall.

That explains why the Lions had to pay such a high price to secure the pick.

Giving up two third-rounders just to move up in round three is certainly expensive.

By comparison, the Giants used a second and two thirds to trade back into round one for Jaxson Dart.

Spending that much for a third-round receiver signals Detroit sees major potential in TeSlaa.

It also marks the second year in a row the team won’t have its own third-round selection. Both of the traded 2026 thirds were compensatory picks from Aaron Glenn’s head coach hire.

Detroit continued reshuffling picks from the deal.

They later traded the 182nd and 228th picks to the Patriots to move up to pick 171 and take Miles Frazier.
