Kentucky Land Local 7-Footer Reece Potter from Transfer Portal

The Kentucky Wildcats are welcoming back a familiar face, landing a local talent through the transfer portal. On Monday, Lexington native Reece Potter announced his commitment to head coach Mark Pope and the Wildcats, per Joe Tipton of On3 Sports.

Potter, a 7-foot-1 center, spent the last two seasons at Miami (Ohio). A former standout at Lexington Catholic High School, he was not ranked as a high school recruit but managed to make an impact at the college level. During his time with the RedHawks, Potter played in 56 games and started 11 of them.

Despite mostly coming off the bench, Potter showcased a versatile game, averaging 6.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.1 assists. Notably, he shot 39.8% from three-point range—a rare skill for a player his size, making him a valuable stretch big.

His skill set brings to mind former Kentucky freshman Zvonimir Ivisic, who had a brief stint in Lexington before transferring to Arkansas and then Illinois this offseason. Potter now becomes the sixth addition via the transfer portal for Mark Pope’s Wildcats, a class ranked fourth nationally according to 247Sports.

With Jayden Quaintance bringing a more traditional presence in the paint and backcourt additions like Denzel Aberdeen and Jaland Lowe, Kentucky’s revamped roster appears strong on paper. The challenge now will be how quickly this group can develop chemistry on the court.
