Ex Detroit Lions Matthew Stafford’s Return Boosts Rams’ Strength of Schedule Outlook

The return of quarterback Matthew Stafford for the 2025 campaign is a positive development for the Los Angeles Rams, especially in terms of their strength of schedule. The Rams are clearly a stronger team when Stafford is leading the offense.

Los Angeles is projected to have the 16th toughest schedule, based on an analysis by Pro Football and Sports Network. PFSN believes the Rams are well-equipped to manage the slate, which features matchups against the Detroit Lions, Baltimore Ravens, and Philadelphia Eagles.

The Rams’ opponents were determined by their division standing at the end of last season, though the complete schedule with times and dates will be made public on May 14.

“Facing the Lions and Ravens could present challenges, but with Matthew Stafford healthy, the Rams are focused on winning now. Depending on your view of the division, the overall schedule doesn’t appear too intimidating,” PFSN stated.

PFSN also highlighted that Sean McVay’s squad handled tight games effectively last season, and that poise should be valuable again in 2025.

“The Rams were one of only three teams to avoid a loss in games decided by three points or fewer last year (they won two). Expect more close contests this season, and their outcomes could heavily influence the team’s trajectory,” the outlet noted.

The Rams will play each of their division rivals twice as usual: the Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers, and Arizona Cardinals.

Their remaining road contests will be against the Carolina Panthers, Atlanta Falcons, Jacksonville Jaguars, Ravens, and Tennessee Titans. Their toughest road test is widely seen as their trip to play the Super Bowl champion Eagles.

At home, aside from their divisional clashes, the Rams will host the New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers from the NFC South. They’ll also welcome the Lions, Houston Texans, and Indianapolis Colts.
