It’s officially ranking season in the NFL, and Lions fans are eager to see how their players stack up.
Quarterback rankings always spark the most debate, as fans and analysts compete to deliver the boldest takes online. Lions QB Jared Goff frequently stirs up controversy in these conversations.
Goff often ranks lower than deserved because of his age and limited mobility. But in the newest list to surface online, he was rated more fairly than usual.
Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report released his “NFL’s Top QBs After 2025 Draft” this week, and I was happy with where he placed Jared Goff.
Gagnon listed Goff as the No. 7 quarterback post-draft, and for the most part, I don’t have issues with the players ranked ahead. Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, and Joe Burrow all belong above Goff.
I don’t entirely agree with Jalen Hurts and Justin Herbert being ahead. Hurts may not be better than Goff, but his two Super Bowl appearances and one win justify the spot.
.Herbert is a very skilled young quarterback, but he’s underperformed in the playoffs and has been statistically worse than Goff lately. He’s the one QB ranked ahead that I truly question.
Overall, No. 7 is a pretty accurate spot for the 30-year-old. Goff is coming off one of his best seasons, finishing top-six in yards, touchdowns, and QBR. He had a six-game stretch with an 82.8% completion rate and 140.1 passer rating, both NFL records.
“Goff was outstanding with a 128.9 passer rating on third downs, and that’s no fluke—he’s had a 102.7 rating since 2022,” Gagnon said in his evaluation.
Goff has been excellent over the past three seasons, throwing for over 4,400 yards and 29 touchdowns each year. The Lions went 2-2 in the playoffs during that time and likely would’ve done more if not for defensive injuries.
Last year, Goff led the league in play-action passes with 203 attempts and 2,060 yards. He outpaced the next quarterback by 600 yards, making him elite in that area.
In the summer, Jared Goff inked a four-year, $212 million extension with Detroit. He’s now under contract through age 34, with an opt-out option after his age-33 season.
The Lions got Goff in the 2021 Stafford trade, and what started as a stopgap has turned into a long-term solution. Goff is finally earning the respect he deserves on the national stages.
