Reece Potter, a towering 7-foot-1 center from Lexington, Kentucky, officially signed with the University of Kentucky men’s basketball team, and his comments following the announcement reflect both pride and emotion. After spending two seasons at Miami (OH), Potter is returning home to don the iconic blue and white jersey—a childhood dream turned reality.
Speaking shortly after the signing, Potter shared his excitement and appreciation for the opportunity. “It’s been a really fast day, but I’m extremely grateful for this opportunity and this chance to put on the Kentucky jersey,” he said. “It’s been a lifelong dream of mine to put on the blue and white. So, actually being able to say I can do that is an insane feeling.”
Potter’s transfer represents more than just a roster move—it’s a homecoming. As the 88th Lexington native to suit up for the Wildcats, his story resonates with fans across the Commonwealth. The former Lexington Catholic standout brings size, skill, and a local connection that energizes the Kentucky fanbase.
Head coach Mark Pope, who took over the program in 2024, spoke highly of Potter’s abilities and passion. “Reece Potter is a Lexington Catholic legend,” Pope said. “He is a lengthy big who has a unique combination of mobility and skill. Reece can really pass, shoot, and protect the rim and fits into what we do exceptionally well. Most importantly, he truly understands what it means to wear the Kentucky jersey.”
Potter emphasized that there was no need for Kentucky to make a big sales pitch to earn his commitment. “They didn’t really have to sell me on anything,” he added. “I have always known what the blue and white means, being a Kentucky kid, so it’s kind of hard to say no.”
At Miami (OH), Potter averaged 6.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, and shot nearly 40% from three-point range—impressive numbers for a player of his size. His skill set aligns well with Coach Pope’s vision for a modern, fast-paced offense.
As Potter prepares to join the Wildcats for the 2025–26 season, his focus is on contributing to the team’s success and embracing the opportunity to represent his hometown. For both the player and the program, the signing is a perfect fit—fueled by history, hope, and heart.
