“Ya’ll gon understand”: BYU signee AJ Dybantsa boasts after viral clip of him balling out in Jamaica

Top 2025 recruit AJ Dybantsa recently traveled to Jamaica to reconnect with his heritage. The 6-foot-9 forward teamed up with the Bob and Rita Marley Foundation from Thursday to Monday to support youth basketball on the island.

A video posted Tuesday by Bleacher Report Hoops showed Dybantsa on a Jamaican court. In a one-on-one play, he used slick dribbling to shake his defender, who fell as Dybantsa drove in and finished with a powerful two-handed dunk:

“Nah why’d he do him like that 🤣 @aj.dybantsa (via @xballafrica ),” read the caption.

Dybantsa replied with confidence:

“when u see the micd up version yall gon understand 😂,” he wrote

AJ’s mother, Chelsea Dybantsa, is originally from Hanover, Jamaica, explaining his island roots. His father, Ace Dybantsa, comes from Congo. Both parents joined him on the trip to support his cause.

The BYU-bound star donated basketball gear and visited local schools to uplift young athletes. Speaking about the initiative, he said:

“My parents always taught me to give back, and what better place than where my mom was born. I want to inspire future hoopers.”

On Monday, Dybantsa posted an Instagram clip showing him handing out shoes, socks, and supplies to local kids, writing:

“This is the whole point.”

Despite receiving offers from major schools like Alabama, Kansas State, UNC, and USC, Dybantsa committed to BYU on December 10.
