NCAA Rejects Aly Khalifa’s Eligibility Appeal

Aly Khalifa’s NCAA Eligibility Extension Denied

BYU’s Aly Khalifa eligibility bid rejected by NCAA, Louisville to appeal…

– The NCAA turned down former BYU center Aly Khalifa’s request for an extra year of eligibility to play a fourth season of college basketball.

In response to the ruling, the University of Louisville confirmed plans to challenge the decision.

Khalifa spent the 2023–2024 season in Provo. He later moved to Louisville but missed the entire season due to a knee injury.

His college journey began at Charlotte in 2020, where he redshirted his first year. Though enrolled for five years, Khalifa has only competed in three seasons.

Louisville argues that his ongoing graduate studies should allow him a fourth and final year of eligibility.

Reports indicated Khalifa shed more than 50 pounds during his injury recovery.

The Cardinals concluded last season ranked second in the ACC with a 27-8 record. Khalifa was expected to play a major role upon his return.

Khalifa Bids Farewell to BYU After Louisville Move

Originally from Alexandria, Egypt, Khalifa spent one season with BYU. He chose the Cougars over offers like the Florida Gators last spring. Despite his knee issue, he became a top passing big man, with a 3.59 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Last year, he recorded averages of 5.7 points and 3.7 rebounds per game.

Before committing to Louisville, Khalifa shared a thank-you message to BYU fans via social media.

“I want to express my sincere gratitude for welcoming me into the BYU community with open arms and treating me like family over the past year. Your unwavering support, both on and off the court, has meant the world to me. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for the love, encouragement, and unforgettable memories. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the BYU family and to represent BYU Athletics.”
