What to Expect from BYU Basketball’s 2025 Non-Conference Schedule

What Could BYU Basketball’s 2025 Non-Conference Slate Look Like?

Most of BYU’s roster is now in place, with players beginning to arrive on campus for offseason workouts. While a couple of developmental or end-of-bench additions may still come, the primary group for the 2025–26 season appears largely set.

Next up is finalizing the non-conference schedule. With the Big 12 cutting back from 20 to 18 games, BYU now has 13 non-conference matchups to schedule. A new NCAA rule also permits televised exhibitions against D1 teams, replacing the old system of non-D1 exhibitions, closed-door scrimmages, or charity games. Teams can now play two such exhibitions with fans and keep the proceeds.

Here’s what’s confirmed and what has surfaced through sources about BYU’s schedule.

Confirmed Matchups

Four games are currently public knowledge.

Exhibition at Nebraska — Sources indicate this will take place Friday, October 17.

Villanova, November 3 (Las Vegas) — Season opener in a doubleheader also featuring Arizona vs. Florida.

Orlando MTE, November 27–28 — BYU joins Dayton, Miami, and Georgetown in a Thanksgiving tourney, playing two of those three.

Clemson, December 9 (New York City) — Part of the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden, alongside Florida vs. UConn.

Additional Intel

Expect BYU to play seven “buy” games and six Quad 1 or 2 level games. The four confirmed above are Quad-level opponents. Sources say two buy games are vs. Delaware and Eastern Washington, hosted in Provo on November 11 and December 22, respectively.

A series with Wisconsin is also being negotiated, likely beginning at Salt Lake City’s Delta Center. A return game location hasn’t been confirmed, but Milwaukee is a logical guess. BYU and Wisconsin last faced off in a memorable NCAA tournament game. Wisconsin was ranked 14th in Jeff Borzello’s early top-25 last month.

BYU is also eyeing a neutral-site matchup in Boston, which would be a homecoming for prospect AJ Dybantsa. Talks have occurred with ACC, Big East, and Atlantic 10 schools for this game.

Besides Nebraska, BYU is aiming for a second October exhibition against another Power Conference opponent at the Delta Center. These preseason games won’t count toward the official record.

In summary, BYU’s schedule is projected to include: 1) Two exhibitions against Power 5 teams, 2) Six neutral-site games against major programs, and 3) Seven buy games in Provo. This upgraded slate offers a stronger prep for Big 12 play and provides a chance to earn key Quad One victories. Notably, neutral-site Quad One status requires playing a top 50 NET team, compared to a top 30 NET opponent at home.
