BYU Takes Command Friday in Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships
BYU maintained its position atop the men’s rankings and climbed to first on the women’s side with standout performances on day two of the 2025 Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Rock Chalk Park.
Texas Tech held steady in second place in the men’s race with 46 points, followed by Houston in third at 30. Iowa State secured fourth with 27 points, while Cincinnati rounded out the top five with 24.33.
The Cougars’ women led with 49.5 points, just ahead of Baylor (38.5) and Oklahoma State (38). Texas Tech placed fourth at 29, while TCU’s 24 points earned fifth.
The men’s and women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase capped Friday’s events with record-breaking performances. BYU’s James Corrigan shattered his own Big 12 record from last year, finishing in 8:22.20 to take the win.
West Virginia’s Sarah Tait captured her school’s fourth women’s steeplechase title in five years, breaking the meet record with a time of 9:44.72, surpassing Olympian Emma Coburn’s 2010 mark.
Competition on Friday began with the completion of the women’s heptathlon and men’s decathlon.
Annie Molenhouse earned Oklahoma State’s first Big 12 heptathlon title with 5,729 points, leading a group of four Cowgirls who placed in the top eight.
Ben Barton of BYU won the men’s decathlon with 7,865 points, finishing in the top three in six out of ten events.
Baylor’s Alexis Brown swept the long jump titles this season with a personal-best 7.03-meter leap. Teammate Molly Haywood repeated her pole vault victory with a 4.52-meter clearance.
Houston’s KeAyla Dove defended her shot put title from indoors with an 18.14-meter throw, becoming the school’s first athlete to win both conference shot put events in a year.
Fred Moudani-Likibi earned Cincinnati’s first Big 12 men’s shot put title, throwing 20.28 meters on his second attempt to win the event.
Texas Tech’s BJ Jennings claimed the men’s high jump title with a personal-best clearance of 2.22 meters, ending the school’s title drought in the event since 2017.
Reinaldo Rodrigues delivered Arizona’s first-ever Big 12 outdoor title by winning the men’s long jump with a 7.64-meter leap on his second try.
The championship wraps up Saturday, starting at 2 p.m. CT with the men’s discus. A total of 26 men’s and women’s events will decide the final team champions.
