Detroit Lions running backs Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery made such a strong impact last season under coach Dan Campbell that they earned new nicknames—Sonic and Knuckles—that have stuck and helped elevate their public profiles.
The team received tough news on Monday with the retirement of center Frank Ragnow, which could make things more challenging for the running back tandem in the upcoming season.
However, on Tuesday, Gibbs and Montgomery stole the spotlight on X as fans shared footage of a commercial featuring the duo and a beloved Detroit soft drink brand, bringing plenty of excitement online.
“Gibbs and Montgomery didn’t just stop by—they took over,” Detroit-based Faygo posted on X Tuesday.
“Two of Detroit’s best are now part of the House of Faygo. The flavor season has officially kicked off!” the brand added, using four themed hashtags.
By early Tuesday afternoon, the commercial had been viewed over 2,600 times, with Gibbs and Montgomery shown enjoying a celebration at the Faygo home.
Faygo dates back to 1907, when it was launched in Detroit as Feigenson Brothers Bottle Works by Russian immigrant bakers Ben and Perry Feigenson.
The brand is famous for its distinctive soda flavors that are staples in Detroit, including Red Pop, Moon Mist, Cotton Candy, Rock N’ Rye, and others.
Faygo products are distributed across much of the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, and Central South U.S., available in both plastic and glass bottles, from 20-ounce singles to 2-liter family sizes.
