NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Detroit Lions have added veteran offensive lineman Trystan Colon, following the retirement of Frank Ragnow. Though the team has not officially confirmed either transaction, since Detroit is in Week 2 of Organized Team Activities (OTAs), both moves may appear on Wednesday’s league transaction report.
Update: Colon’s signing is now official per the NFL Transaction Wire. In a corresponding move, recently signed cornerback Divaad Wilson was waived/injured.
Colon entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent from Missouri in 2020, signing with the Ravens. Over his first three seasons, he appeared in 20 games for Baltimore, starting three at center and one at right guard. He joined the New York Jets in 2023 but was cut and claimed by the Arizona Cardinals. Across the past two years in Arizona, he played 31 games, starting four at left guard and seven at right guard. In 2024, he logged 386 snaps, surrendered 12 pressures, and gave up no sacks.
Although Colon has lined up at all five offensive line spots, Detroit will likely utilize him on the interior, where he’s most experienced and the team needs additional depth.
At center, the competition for the starting role is expected between Graham Glasgow and rookie Tate Ratledge. Colon will more likely compete for a reserve role with returning backup Michael Niese and second-year undrafted free agent Kingsley Eguakun.
As for guard, Glasgow, Ratledge, and Christian Mahogany are projected early starters but will battle others in training camp. Colon will join a group that includes rookie Miles Frazier, returning veterans Kayode Awosika and Netane Muti, and undrafted rookie Mason Miller.
