In his 2021 senior season, he notched 43 catches for 743 yards and 13 touchdowns. Despite his standout high school career, Covey didn’t generate much recruiting buzz. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound receiver is part of a talented wide receiver corps featuring veterans and top underclassmen. Weston Covey’s name doesn’t appear on Ourlads’ current depth chart among the eight listed wideouts. That’s not a criticism of Covey; it’s just the reality for an under-the-radar walk-on competing for playing time at a deep position on a Power Four roster. Wide receivers coach Fesi Sitake is a skilled scout who signed Covey for a reason, and Covey’s returning for a second season for a reason. Success for Covey likely means refining his skills, getting scout team reps, working on his physique, and gaining experience. With four years remaining at BYU, the focus is on long-term growth, and even if he doesn’t play in 2025, he’ll be better prepared in the future.
