WeFollowing Detroit Lions player Frank Ragnow’s retirement earlier this week, fans wanted to express their gratitude for his impact on them and the city. Many shared messages on social media, while others wrote tribute articles. Another group chose to donate to Ragnow’s charity, the “Rags Remembered Foundation.”
Originally suggested on social media, fans have been donating amounts of $77 or $7.70 to Ragnow’s Foundation—reflecting his No. 77 jersey worn during his seven seasons with Detroit. The foundation supports grieving Detroit families through outdoor activities, counseling, and social events.
According to posts by the Rags Remembered Foundation, Lions fans raised nearly $10,000 in donations within the first 24 hours.
Since Frank announced his official NFL retirement, fans have continued giving $77 and $7.70 donations to the Rags Remembered Foundation to honor his contributions to the Lions and his support of grieving families.
By Friday, Katie Kozak of the Rags Remembered Foundation informed Dave Birkett of the Free Press that donations had grown to $11,000 in under two days.
On Saturday, the foundation used those funds to host 40 children at “Camp Huddle Up,” a free event promoting outdoor fun and healing through grief counseling.
