Formula 1 heads across the Atlantic this weekend as the championship makes its annual visit to North America for the 2025 Canadian Grand Prix, which marks the 10th round of the current F1 season. The race will be held at Montreal’s iconic Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and is set to run from Friday, June 13th to Sunday, June 15th. This year’s event may be the last time the Canadian GP is held in June, as Formula 1 plans to reshuffle its calendar starting next season to improve regional consistency and reduce unnecessary travel between continents.

Currently, the race takes place shortly after the Monaco Grand Prix, leading to a temporary shift from the European calendar to North America before returning to Europe. From next year, Monaco and Canada will likely switch places on the schedule, allowing the European season to progress without interruption and aligning races more regionally. This change is part of a broader strategy by Formula 1 to optimize the calendar for logistics, sustainability, and efficiency.

On the sporting front, all eyes will be on reigning world champion Max Verstappen as he arrives in Canada looking to extend his remarkable winning streak at this track. Verstappen has won every edition of the Canadian Grand Prix since 2022, making him the clear favorite heading into the weekend. However, his position is under threat due to disciplinary concerns. Verstappen currently holds 11 penalty points on his super licence, just one short of the 12-point threshold that would trigger an automatic one-race ban. Any additional infractions during the weekend could see him forced to sit out the next round.

The Canadian Grand Prix weekend is packed with action. It begins on Friday, June 13th with two free practice sessions. The first session will take place from 18:30 to 19:30 BST, while the second will run later in the evening from 22:00 to 22:59 BST. Saturday, June 14th will feature the final practice session from 17:30 to 18:30 BST, followed by the crucial qualifying session starting at 21:00 BST and lasting one hour. The main event, the race itself, will take place on Sunday, June 15th, beginning at 19:00 BST and running until 21:00 BST.

As the 10th round in what has already been a fiercely competitive season, the Canadian Grand Prix is expected to be pivotal in shaping the championship narrative. With growing pressure on Verstappen and potential changes in the calendar looming, fans can expect drama both on and off the track.
