New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has been shaped by the mentors he’s worked under throughout his career.
Glenn has been guided by some truly outstanding figures in the NFL.
Having learned under Super Bowl champions like Bill Parcells and Sean Payton, Glenn understands the value of culture and discipline. He believes those principles will benefit the Jets during his time there.
However, it’s his recent stint with the Detroit Lions and head coach Dan Campbell that may prove most useful in Glenn’s debut season.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, during the final day of minicamp, Glenn acknowledged Campbell for letting him take charge of Detroit’s practice schedule during his four years as defensive coordinator.
That’s something he has brought with him to his new team.
“I owe a lot to Coach Campbell in Detroit because he gave me the chance to act like a head coach—setting the offseason calendar, mapping out training camp, and making key decisions that normally were his,” Glenn said. “He trusted me with those calls to help prepare me for this role.”
Glenn has consistently expressed gratitude for the coaches who helped shape his career. Their mentorship played a major role in getting him to this point.
Now in charge, the former cornerback-turned-scout-turned-coach is applying his practice philosophies with the Jets.
And fans will get their first look at it when Jets training camp starts on July 22.
