Bulldogs lead race for local EDGE prospect with major SEC rival close behind

Georgia “leading the charge” for in-state EDGE as rival lurks close behind

Georgia is nearing yet another major addition.

The Bulldogs continue to gain ground with several of the country’s top prospects and seem poised to land more big-name commitments. However, Georgia is also targeting some lesser-known recruits who, despite lower rankings, are being pursued with intensity by Kirby Smart and his staff.

One of those prospects is Corey Howard, a three-star EDGE from Valdosta, GA. According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Howard doesn’t crack the top 1,000, but that shouldn’t deter Georgia fans. Smart has built a reputation for identifying talent beyond rankings, and if the staff wants Howard, that interest should be taken seriously.

Howard made his official visit to Georgia on June 13, and all signs point to it being a success. On Wednesday, Rivals’ Jed May reported that Georgia is currently “leading the charge” in Howard’s recruitment.

Georgia must fend off Florida for in-state EDGE

Florida is the primary contender in this race, having hosted Howard on the only other official visit he’s taken. With Howard’s commitment scheduled for June 24, it seems the decision will come down to Georgia and Florida.

There hasn’t been a formal prediction for where Howard will land, but May’s comments suggest Georgia may be in line for a favorable outcome when the commitment is made Tuesday. Keep an eye on this recruitment, as more reliable information may surface this weekend as the announcement nears.

For now, the momentum appears to favor Georgia, and fans should be optimistic that Howard will become the next addition to the Bulldogs’ 2025 recruiting classon Tuesday.
