Sam LaPorta is entering his third year as a standout tight end for the Detroit Lions, aiming to build on two strong seasons to kick off his NFL journey.
Across 33 regular-season games with Detroit, LaPorta has totaled 146 receptions for 1,615 yards and 17 touchdowns. The former second-round selection is now set to keep that momentum going in the Lions’ upcoming 2025 campaign.
Off the gridiron, LaPorta had a memorable offseason following his second NFL year. This past Saturday, the 24-year-old tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend, Callahan Dellinger.
LaPorta and his new bride announced their marriage with a shared Instagram post on Sunday.
Friends and fellow athletes filled the comments with congratulations. One of the most attention-grabbing replies came from San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle.
Both Kittle and LaPorta played their college football careers as elite tight ends for the Iowa Hawkeyes.
“LaPorta’s going to be amazing. I really believe he was the top tight end in that draft class. Detroit absolutely got a bargain,” Kittle said when the Lions drafted LaPorta at No. 34 in 2023. “I respect the other tight ends too, but I spent a couple of weeks training with Sam, and the way he moves – he’s got that dog in him. He’s also a little weird and funny. He’ll fit in great.”
LaPorta and the Lions are set to begin the 2025 regular season with a Week 1 showdown against the Green Bay Packers on September 7.
