Ex-Lions Quarterback Faces Uncertain Future Following Offseason Sessions

The Detroit Lions still need to settle who will serve as Jared Goff’s main understudy when the 2025 season kicks off later this year.

Hendon Hooker and Kyle Allen each bring something to the table, but neither jumps out as the kind of backup who could keep Detroit’s explosive offense rolling if Goff were sidelined. That’s a call for GM Brad Holmes to make soon.

This story spotlights a veteran signal-caller who left Detroit a few seasons back and now appears likely to be cut once more as training camps edge closer on the NFL calendar.

After finishing minicamp, Tim Boyle is slotted fourth on the Tennessee Titans’ depth chart, trailing top pick Cam Ward, last year’s Week 1 starter Will Levis, and seasoned passer Brandon Allen, who joined in March.

This isn’t an exaggeration. Boyle has virtually zero shot at cracking the Titans’ final roster after camp concludes. The ice beneath him in Nashville is paper-thin already. Without injuries or surprise moves, nothing will firm up to save him.

Whether Ward takes over from Week 1 or Levis holds the job before handing it off, the ex-Miami Hurricanes QB is the face of the Titans’ future at the position.

Dealing Levis for any draft assets would be ideal for Tennessee, but moving him requires a willing trade partner, and his value on the market seems minimal right now.

Allen’s spring deal included a $1 million guarantee. While not massive, it’s still meaningful enough that the Titans won’t toss it aside by cutting him loose without cause.

Boyle’s agreement, by contrast, guaranteed him nothing. He’s a camp body for now, filling reps until he’s no longer needed — at which point Tennessee will cut ties and wish him well.

Where the ex-Lions starter lands next is anyone’s guess, but if he’s fond of country tunes, hopefully, he soaks up Music City’s best shows before he’s shown the door.
