The new season of Netflix’s hit series Quarterback has dropped, and while Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff is one of the featured players, the spotlight also shines on some of his teammates.
Among them is star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, Goff’s go-to target. And thanks to St. Brown’s girlfriend, one of the funniest scenes in the show comes during a segment centered around Goff.
During a conversation about how St. Brown ended up wearing No. 14 in Detroit, his girlfriend Brooklyn Adams shares a hilarious misstep. She says she helped him choose his jersey number—though not quite accurately.
“He’ll never admit this, but he told me to count how many receivers were drafted ahead of him so he could wear that number. I messed up the count and told him it was 14. So he picked 14.”
St. Brown chimes in, “I did the math later and realized it was actually 16 receivers. But I think Jared looks better in 16 anyway.”
In a way, Adams may have saved him some drama. Goff already wore No. 16 when he arrived in Detroit a year before St. Brown was drafted. Trying to claim that number would’ve been a tough battle.
And considering the way St. Brown has outshined many of those 16 receivers picked before him, the number 14 has worked out just fine. Guys like Kadarius Toney, Terrace Marshall Jr., Amari Rodgers, and Dez Fitzpatrick haven’t come close to St. Brown’s production—or even stuck in the league.
As they say, “Hindsight is 20-20.” At the time of the draft, Detroit probably didn’t expect their top receiver to come from the 112th overall pick. But that’s exactly what happened—even with a miscounted jersey number.
