Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford and his wife, Kelly, gave their heartfelt thoughts on the flooding that struck Central Texas. The disaster, which began last week, has taken the lives of 121 individuals, according to CBS News, with 170 people still unaccounted for.
Matthew and Kelly discussed the heartbreaking event on a recent episode of “The Morning After with Kelly Stafford and Hank” podcast, aired on July 10.
“Terrible, terrible thing to witness,” Matthew Stafford stated [2:09]. “Waking up to something like that in the middle of the night, whether nearby or at the camp, is unimaginable. It’s a really tough situation.”
“It’s hard to grasp why such events occur. Absolutely gut-wrenching. Difficult to read about or see on the news. Just praying for everyone in that area. It definitely hits close to my heart,” he continued.
Camp Mystic, a popular summer camp, was also impacted, and Kelly expressed concern for the girls affected by the disaster.
“This is our daughters’ first time going to sleepaway camp. They’re thrilled. I’m sure the girls there were just as excited. To have their experience end in tragedy is heartbreaking. I can’t imagine what those parents are feeling,” she shared [3:46].
A member of Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt’s extended family was also lost in the flood. Gracie Hunt, his daughter, honored them on Instagram and revealed a generous donation to aid the victims.
On June 18, Kelly Stafford uploaded a carousel of photos showing her children enjoying summer activities. She paired the pictures and clips with a heartfelt caption.
The first image showed Kelly seated with her four daughters in a garden. Other photos followed of the kids beaming at the camera.
In one photo, the Stafford girls were seen riding horses, and a video captured them spinning in colorful dresses. The clips also featured the girls dancing and doing gymnastics.
Kelly and Matthew met during college and married in 2015. They welcomed twin daughters, Sawyer and Chandler, in 2017. Their third daughter, Hunte, was born the next year. Their youngest, Tyler, arrived in 2020.
