Hundreds of Children Attend Jameson Williams’ Youth Football Camp at Notre Dame Prep

After loud chants of “We want JaMo” filled the air, a large group of kids at midfield at Notre Dame Prep High School were treated to an appearance by not one, but two Lions players.

Roughly 300 kids between the ages of 6 and 16 participated in the youth football camp on Sunday, which was hosted by Lions wideout Jameson Williams and featured a surprise visit from safety Kerby Joseph.

Each camper took a photo with Williams — and several also posed with Joseph, who even autographed one attendee’s shoes — while a few lucky ones caught deep throws from the fourth-year pro.

“I do this just to see the kids smile and bring them joy,” Williams said. “Some kids might not ever meet someone like me, especially if they keep to themselves. I want to be a role model, inspire the youth, and give back to the community.”

Participants were grouped by age and rotated through different camp stations, hosted by FlexWork Sports Management, which partners with athletes across the U.S. and Canada. The drills included a mix of agility workouts like ladder and backpedal stations.

When asked if any kids tried racing him, Williams laughed. “No, but they always ask who’s faster than me, and I always say nobody,” he said.

Williams didn’t run the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine due to injury, sparking debate about his time, especially since he claims he could run a 4.1. On Sunday, he said he might not do a 40 but could try a 100-meter dash one day for fun.

Reflecting on his own youth camp memories, Williams said he was most starstruck by Laurence Maroney, a former Patriots running back who’s also from St. Louis.

Lions fans weren’t the only ones connecting with Williams — players from Notre Dame Prep helped out at stations and also got to chat with him before the camp began.

“This is amazing,” said Josh Laura, a senior defensive back for the defending Division 5 state champs. “It’s great being out here, helping the kids learn football. It’s a rewarding experience for all of us.”

ND Prep head coach Pat Fox was also on hand and highlighted how events like Sunday’s help introduce more kids to the school’s football program.

“It’s a great event,” said Fox. “We’ve got wonderful facilities, and that’s great, but it’s more about growing the sport. It gives young players a way to bond, laugh, and experience the game. Meeting Mr. Williams and Mr. Joseph was a bonus. Two classy guys. We’re always happy to host events like this.”

For the Irish players, being out in the heat on the field was a signal that the season is drawing closer.

“For sure,” Laura said when asked if it got him fired up. “We’ve got a strong team returning — our QB, some key linebackers. I can’t wait for the season to start.”
