Lions’ Aidan Hutchinson Addresses Health Entering Training Camp

Aidan Hutchinson revealed back in May that he was fully medically cleared following his recovery from a broken leg. So, it’s no surprise there won’t be any restrictions on the Lions’ Pro Bowler when training camp begins.

The 2025 season is a pivotal one for the former No. 2 overall pick, as he and the Lions try to rebound from last year’s early playoff exit. Hutchinson’s injury significantly impacted Detroit’s defense after he went down in Week 5. Before that, he was a strong contender for Defensive Player of the Year honors with 7.5 sacks and 27 quarterback pressures. If he can stay healthy this season, Detroit’s pass rush will be in excellent shape.

Remaining healthy will also matter financially for Hutchinson. He’s now eligible for a contract extension, and turning 25 next month, he’s in line to become one of the league’s highest-paid edge rushers. The market for that position is currently $40 million annually, but both T.J. Watt and Micah Parsons may exceed that number before Week 1. The Lions are aware of Hutchinson’s market value, and reports in the spring indicated extension talks were expected to pick up after his recovery.

No new details have emerged on a possible extension, but there’s still plenty of time for the two sides to reach a deal. Now that he’s fully healthy, negotiations just before or during training camp seem increasingly realistic.
