The biggest news from head coach Dan Campbell’s Sunday press conference was that defensive lineman Levi Onwuzurike will miss the year due to a torn ACL, but Campbell also gave several other injury updates.
Left tackle Taylor Decker landed on the physically unable to perform list at the start of training camp, and Campbell said he’s recovering from shoulder surgery. The Lions are hoping Decker can return to practice following the Hall of Fame Game against the Chargers in Canton, Ohio on July 31.
“We think there’s a strong chance we’ll get [Decker] back after the Hall of Fame Game,” Campbell said, via the team website. “He’s doing well. Just had his shoulder cleaned up and we’ll ease him back when he’s ready. He’s in a good spot.”
Defensive end Josh Paschal’s return will take longer. He remains on the non-football injury list, and while Campbell didn’t reveal the issue, he said Paschal likely won’t practice before September.
