Many were surprised when the Detroit Lions used the No. 12 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft to select running back Jahmyr Gibbs.
Since then, Gibbs has proven his worth — and more — tallying 31 touchdowns over two seasons while playing a key role in turning the Lions into a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
A major piece in what was arguably the league’s most creative and explosive offense last year, Gibbs recently shared a bold vision for his 2025 role as Detroit aims to finally win it all after two near-misses.
Gibbs made it clear he’s all in for the team.
“I want to win a Super Bowl. I’ll line up at safety, at nickel,” he told Brad Galli.
Even if it’s doubtful the Lions deploy him on defense, his comments show he’s fully bought into his hybrid role on offense and is saying everything a leader should before a pivotal campaign.
After racking up 1,929 all-purpose yards and scoring 20 touchdowns, Gibbs has become one of the NFL’s top backs. With offensive coordinator Ben Johnson now the Bears’ head coach, how Gibbs performs in 2025 will be closely watched.
Detroit has strong depth at safety and nickel, but if injuries strike again like last year, maybe Dan Campbell really will turn to Gibbs for a surprise cameo on defense.
