The Detroit Lions have completely shifted the direction of their franchise in recent years, most notably posting a franchise-best 15 wins in 2024 after reaching the NFC title game the season before.
Following a disappointing loss to the Washington Commanders that ended their Super Bowl aspirations in the Divisional Round last year, the Lions are fueled by frustration, and running back David Montgomery addressed that feeling while issuing a bold statement before the 2025 season.
“This is probably the hungriest I’ve ever been because I feel like people kind of forget I’m part of this offense too,” Montgomery said, per Eric Woodyard of ESPN.
Montgomery also noted that the Lions are “tired of being close” to capturing a Super Bowl after heartbreaking playoff exits in consecutive seasons.
Since signing in free agency ahead of the 2023 season, the veteran back has been an essential piece of Detroit’s offense, scoring 25 touchdowns in 28 appearances.
Sadly, he was among the key Lions injured late in the 2024 campaign, and during the playoff loss to Washington, he wasn’t at full strength, tallying only 28 yards on seven carries.
With one of the NFL’s most complete rosters, Detroit remains a top contender, and fans hope that two years of hard-earned experience—and a burning desire—can finally propel them to a championship.
