Jameson Williams enters a pivotal 2025 season hoping to secure a major contract extension with the Detroit Lions.
Now in his fourth year, Williams aims to prove he’s not just worth keeping, but worthy of being a foundational offensive weapon next to Jahmyr Gibbs, David Montgomery, and Amon-Ra St. Brown.
As Lions training camp ramps up, Williams is under the microscope to match his impressive 2024 form—topping 1,000 receiving yards as a complement to St. Brown. If early training clips are any indication, he appears poised to pick up right where he left off.
One rep shows Williams running smoothly and snatching a pass cleanly with his hands. It wasn’t under duress, but still showed the focus and sharpness the Lions want to see this early, especially ahead of their Hall of Fame Game appearance on July 31st.
Williams likely won’t take meaningful snaps in that matchup—nor will most starters—especially as Detroit deals with mounting injuries, including to Levi Onwuzurike, Ennis Rakestraw, Roy Lopez, and Sione Vaki.
The wideout is one of several Lions looking for new contracts after 2025. Aidan Hutchinson, Sam LaPorta, Brian Branch, Jack Campbell, Jahmyr Gibbs, and Alex Anzalone also headline the team’s looming free agent decisions.
If Williams posts another 1,000-yard campaign, he could command a contract near $75 million over three years—an estimate given by SI’s Christian Booher in June.
While St. Brown gives Detroit a strong WR1, losing Williams in 2027 would sting. The Lions should prioritize keeping both stars if Williams continues producing at a high level.
Teams like the Bengals, Eagles, and Vikings thrive with two elite wideouts. Detroit must follow suit to keep its offensive core intact with Williams and St. Brown.
