All 32 NFL teams are expected to be in training camp by week’s end. As the fall season nears, preparations are intensifying. The Detroit Lions began early due to their Hall of Fame Game appearance, with all players reporting by July 19.
The 2025 season brings change to the Lions’ sideline, as several coaches departed. Among them, Ben Johnson took over as head coach of the Chicago Bears and reportedly wants to bring a former Detroit receiver to his new team.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that wide receiver DJ Chark recently visited the Bears and is currently considering his next move carefully.
In an interview with Kyle Odegard of Sports Casting, Chark said, “It will have to be something that makes sense, from a family perspective and also from an X’s and O’s perspective.”
If the fit is right for his family, Chicago could be an ideal match given his comfort with the offensive system.
Chark played for Detroit in 2022, making 10 starts in 11 games. He totaled 30 receptions on 52 targets, with 502 yards and three touchdowns. His deep threat ability stood out, averaging 16.7 yards per catch.
Following Detroit, Chark had stints with the Panthers and Chargers. The LSU alum offers value with his 6-foot-3 size and ability to track deep throws, though injuries have limited his availability.
Chicago has its starting receivers set but still seeks additional depth. Johnson’s past with Chark influenced the team’s interest. Lions fans may not enjoy seeing more familiar faces join their division rivals.
