For the third year in a row, the Detroit Lions’ Family Fest—an open practice usually hosted at Ford Field—has once again been canceled.
“Due to stadium availability and our Lions schedule, we are unable to host Family Fest this year as it has been in the past few seasons (WWE SummerSlam, concerts, etc.),” a Lions spokesperson told MLive.
Looking at the Lions’ training camp calendar and Ford Field’s booked events, the only real window for the event would have been shortly after the Aug. 8 preseason matchup against the Atlanta Falcons.
However, Grammy winner Chris Brown is set to hold his “Breezy Bowl XX” concert at Ford Field on Aug. 7 and 8, celebrating his two decades in music. The concert’s breakdown timeline would clash with the Lions’ needs, making that weekend impractical.
In 2023, the event was paused due to a major concert at Ford Field featuring Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown Band, Megan Moroney, and Uncle Kracker on Aug. 10.
Similarly, in 2023, WWE used the stadium for its “SummerSlam” premium event, which also conflicted with team plans.
The last Family Fest, in 2022, attracted 18,000 fans—its highest attendance ever. There is no word yet on if or when it will return.
