One former member of the Detroit Lions’ 2024 squad may have benefitted from considering that before posting on social media after inking a deal with a new team.
Instead of offering a typical farewell and expressing appreciation for his previous team, as most athletes do in free agency, this three-time All-Pro took a jab at the Lions and a few other organizations.
Veteran safety Jamal Adams signed with the Lions late in the 2024 regular season and played in two games, both as a starter. Once injured players returned, the team released Adams on Jan. 1, 2025, after he registered just three total tackles across those two appearances.
Adams recently signed with the Las Vegas Raiders. Contract details haven’t been disclosed, but the move reunites him with former Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll. Judging by Adams’ social media, he’s thrilled with the change.
That reunion with Carroll likely influenced Las Vegas’ decision to sign Adams. From a purely football standpoint, his performance since tearing his quad tendon in Week 1 of 2022 hasn’t convinced teams he can still make an impact.
Before arriving in Detroit at the end of 2024, Adams was with the struggling Tennessee Titans. He requested his release after being placed on the reserve/non-football injury list, having played only 20 snaps across three games.
Lions fans have no reason to feel upset over Adams’ remarks. Their focus remains on the team’s pursuit of its first NFC title and a long-awaited Super Bowl appearance.
Adams might have a different perspective on Detroit when they’re in the postseason spotlight and the Raiders are watching from home.
