Detroit Lions Fans Show Up in Force Despite Rain at Training Camp in Allen Park

A warm and overcast morning in Allen Park didn’t stop Detroit Lions fans from showing their usual enthusiasm as the team hosted its first training camp session open to supporters.

On Friday, the Lions began padded practices, and by Saturday, they welcomed thousands of spirited season-ticket holders as preparations continue for the defending NFC North champions.

Supporters packed the grandstands surrounding the practice fields, loudly cheering rookie running back Kye Robichaux as he bulldozed a defender in drills and shouting praise for linebacker Alex Anzalone, making his camp debut.

One of the biggest crowd reactions came when Lions owner Sheila Ford Hamp and her mother, Martha Firestone Ford, cruised by in their custom Ford Mustang cart.

Elsewhere on the premises, fans enjoyed face painting, posed with giant Lions helmets, and had the chance to snap a picture with former Lions Pro Bowl kicker Jason Hanson.

“It’s unbelievable. Anytime our fans…come back out here for camp, it’s really something,” said head coach Dan Campbell. “No matter where I go, or where the guys go, people always make sure to tell us they’re season ticket holders. It never stops—it’s incredible.”

“It’s up to us to give them something they can brag about and make them want to keep those tickets. These fans are amazing, this city is amazing, and it’s our job to keep them proud—and we will.”

After consecutive division championships, Detroit’s loyal supporters are more fired up than ever.

Robert Gonzales, a loyal fan for more than 50 years and a season-ticket holder since 1990, can hardly wait for the 2025 season to begin.

The Lions’ 2023 Fan of the Year is convinced this team will keep climbing.

“This team is unlike anything I’ve seen,” Gonzales told MLive. “Every year, we always say, ‘This is our year.’ We’ve said that forever, haven’t we? But this time, I really believe it—this team is the real deal.”

The first open practice for general fans will take place July 28. As noted on the team’s website, all available tickets for 2025 training camp have already been distributed.
