The Lions relied heavily on backups and young talent in the Hall of Fame Game, but the outcome left head coach Dan Campbell frustrated.
Detroit fell to the Chargers 34-7, and Campbell said the performance failed to match the expectations of the team.
“You want to win, but also play at a high level, and we didn’t accomplish that,” Campbell stated. “I expect us to deliver a much stronger showing next week.”
Campbell was especially upset about the team’s turnover issues.
“We gave the ball away five times and didn’t force any,” he said. “If you’re repping the Lions, ball security is essential — or you won’t stick around.”
He emphasized that players competing for a roster role need to raise their game on August 8 against Atlanta.
“The point is, when you’re given a shot, you’ve got to make it count,” Campbell said. “We need big improvement — better coaching and better execution from the guys.”
