Ennis Rakestraw out “a while” with shoulder injury, Lions sign two corners

Lions cornerback Ennis Rakestraw has struggled with injuries since entering the league as a second-round pick last year, and a new setback is expected to keep him out once again during his second NFL season.

Rakestraw injured his shoulder on Saturday, and head coach Dan Campbell said Monday that it will be “a while” before the cornerback is back on the field.

As a rookie, Rakestraw dealt with ankle and hamstring issues, and he sustained a chest contusion early in this year’s training camp. He recorded six tackles in the eight games he was healthy enough to play last season.

Along with the Rakestraw update, the Lions signed cornerbacks Luq Barcoo and D.J. Miller. Barcoo played three games for Jacksonville in 2020, and Miller suited up for the UFL’s Michigan Panthers this year.

To make room, the Lions placed safety Dan Jackson on injured reserve and waived running back Kye Robichaux with an injury designation, opening two roster spots.
